On Wednesday, 15th October 2014, a professional symposium titled: "Horticulture - the possibilities, opportunities and best practices on the topic of TREES, OUR WEALTH" was held at the School for Horticulture and Visual Arts Celje. At the symposium researchers and professionals from the fields of horticulture, agriculture, forestry and environmental conservation presented their work. LIFEGENMON – LIFE for EUROPEAN FOREST GENETIC MONITORING SYSTEM

LIFEGENMON combines efforts of 6 partners from 3 countries/states (Germany/Bavaria, Greece and Slovenia), and shall last from July 2014 till June 2020. The total finances are 5,84M€, from which the EU shall finance almost 50% (2,7 M€); partners of the project have to contribute the other 50% from their own (national) sources.
The partners are: Slovenian Forestry Institute (Coordinator), Slovenia Forest Service; Centre for information service, co-operation and development of NGOs; Bayerisches Amt für forstliche Saat- und Pflanzenzucht; Aristotle University of Thessaloniki; General Directorate of Forests and Agricultural Affairs - Decentralized Administration of Macedonia – Thrace.

This week Slovenian Forestry Institute hosts the Combined Expert Panel Meeting on Foliage and Litterfall / Soil and Soil Solution / Deposition / Working Group on QA/QC. On Wednesday, April 10 2013, there were three lectures on ring test for soil, deposition and foliar. At the end of the day, Richard Fischer, one of two editors, presented the participant of the meeting the upcoming book »Forest Monitoring, Methods for terrestrial investigations in Europe with an overview of North America and Asia«. Among many authors, many are also present at this combined meeting, are also dr. Urša Vilhar and Daniel Žlindra, both employed at Slovenian Forestry Institute.

COST Action FP1204 was launched- action for “Green Infrastructure approach”

On the 14th of February in Brussels within COST (European Cooperation in Science and Technology), one of the longest-running European frameworks supporting cooperation among scientists and Researchers across Europe) the Action FP1204 was launched. It is called 'Green Infrastructure approach: linking environmental with social aspects in studying and managing urban forests'. 32 European countries participate in this Action plus United States, Canada, Algeria, Armenia as external non-COST countries. FAO is also joining the initiative.

The 2012 “Young People in European Forests” Project Concluded with an Awards Ceremony

On Friday, 22 February, 2013, the Slovenian Forestry Institute hosted the final event in the “Young People in European Forests” international youth competition, which was organized in Slovenia by the Slovenian Forestry Institute and the Scout Association of Slovenia. The high-schoolers who took part in the competition at the regional as well as national and international levels were greeted by SFI’s director dr. Primož Simončič. Then the students and their mentors received awards for their successful participation in the competition, whose aim is to learn about Europe’s forests and other protected areas.

THE SLOVENIAN FORESTRY INSTITUTE’S NEW DIRECTOR, PRIMOŽ SIMONČIČ, INTRODUCES HIMSELF TO THE WORKERS’ ASSEMBLY

On Tuesday, 12 February 2013, the Slovenian Forestry Institute’s new director Primož Simončič, who was appointed during the government’s 47th regular meeting on 1 February 2013, introduced himself to the workers’ assembly. He greeted the workers’ assembly in the Slovenian Forestry Institute’s Grand Hall with brief remarks: “Last week we received official notice from the government of the Republic of Slovenia on my appointment as director of the Slovenian Forestry Institute. I wanted to let you know about this in person, and explain my views on managing the Institute in the future.”
